Media Siya Hamba

Two faces of 1950s Azanian music, from recordings by Hugh Tracey of the International Library of African Music. Side 1 covers a wide range of rural sounds, including amazing harmonica (dances with vocals and strange hyperventilations, bluesy solos); concertina; autoharp; and country guitar styles. Side 2 is a session of smalltown kwela (influenced by jazz and jump-blues) with terrific women singers.
