The rebec is a European development of the Arabic rabab. It emerged in the 11th century, and died out in the early 16th century. For most of its life, it was a small instrument, but larger sizes were made towards the end of the 15th century, and it enjoyed a brief spell as a consort instrument. This three stringed instrument can be tuned like either the lower or upper three strings of the violin. This one comes with extra nylon strings so you can try both. Solid carved pine body, laminate top, hardwood fingerboard, bridge and tailpiece. Comes with a period bow. It is strung with nylon strings, but it can also be strung with regular violin strings.

***This instrument is hand-crafted upon ordering, and may take up to 3 months for completion.***
