Amaze your friends with the mechanical operation of the Hurdy Gurdy. Just turn the crank to activate the rosin-coated wheel which vibrates the strings. Then push the keys with your other hand to play melodies. It's a fascinating invention with a rich history from sixteenth century Europe.
Has 6 strings and 24 keys. The body is made of maple, and the pegs and keys made of jujube wood. Comes with rosin.
This hurdy gurdy was made for us in China and is one of a first batch that we received as we work with the maker to improve the product. Overall we are pretty happy with this hurdy gurdy. It's well made and we were pleasantly surprised by the inclusion of the adjustable wooden tangents. The reduced price is due to a couple of flaws you should be aware of:
- A very slight wobble in the wheel that creates an inconsistent sound (see video below).
- A couple of the keys are sticky. We corrected the problem with some wood polish but we suspect that it's an issue that may require further attention down the road with changes in temperature or humidity.
- Some minor scratches in the finish.
