Japanese Chikuzen Biwa, Used
Japanese Chikuzen Biwa, Used
SKU:STR263
A biwa is a traditional Japanese musical instrument that belongs to the lute family. It has a pear-shaped body with a short neck and four or five silk strings. The instrument is plucked or strummed with a large, triangular-shaped plectrum called a bachi.
This one is a Chikuzen Biwa (筑前琵琶). Originating from the Chikuzen region, this biwa is associated with the Fuke sect of Zen Buddhism. It is played by monks and is known for its meditative and spiritual qualities.
Part of Mickie Zekley's collection, this instrument is in excellent shape. We did some minor work on the pegs and installed new silk strings.
