Pre-owned Alfred Weaver Banjolin,  c. early 1900's

This banjolin is in very good condition considering its age.  Note: It is missing 3 brackets that go along the circumference of the body.  It does not come with a case.

It is tuned in 5ths like a mandolin (low to high): D-A-E-B.  It looks and sounds great!

Check out the video/sound sample at the end of the photo gallery!

Approximate specifications:

Overall Length:  25 1/2"

Body Width:  11 1/2 "

Body Depth: 3"

Nut to Bridge: 14 3/4"

Nut width: 1 1/8"

Frets: 18

Weight:  6 pounds

The instrument is stamped on the dowel stick "A. WEAVER MAKER LONDON W.C." — the definitive signature of Alfred Weaver (1857–1939), widely regarded as one of the finest English banjo makers of the classic era. The W.C. (Western Central) postal district suffix places it in his later period. Weaver built his instruments by hand in small quantities, and his necks in particular are renowned among classic banjo players for their stability and comfortable profile.

This example appears to be a custom or presentation-grade instrument. The headstock features a large mother-of-pearl star inlay — a premium decorative treatment associated with his higher-end commissions — with interlaced owner's initials engraved at the center.
