Spoons

Spoons

Spoons can be played as a makeshift percussion instrument, or more specifically, an idiophone related to the castanets. They are played by hitting one spoon against the other.

I have been playing the spoons for 50+ years, since my Dad taught me when I was a kid. I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I’ve played on stage, records and TV. I have tried the connected metals spoons and the one-piece wooden models, but I am not that into them. I prefer two separate stainless steel tablespoons. More ability to control the rhythm and the sound with separate spoons. I look for pairs with comfortable handles, tapered necks, good balance and weight… 18/8 grade stainless. I am interested in trying a pair of the two-piece wooden ones sold here. Not sure which model to try first… any recommendations ? As much as fun being a sound-effects guy for a stage or radio play might be, I am not one…so not really looking so much for sound of hoof clops at this time. Thanks for any ideas.. else I’ll just pick one and call it a christmas gift to myself. happy holidays
