The guzheng , also known as the Chinese zither, is a Chinese plucked string instrument going back more than 2,500-years. Originally it had 16 or more strings and movable bridges. The modern Gu Zheng typically has 21 strings.

Most commonly tuned in D major, the notes are tuned to a pentatonic scale: D, E, F#, A & B.
