Collection: Bodhrans

The bodhrán is an Irish frame drum.  It ranges in diameter from 9 to 25 inches, with a side depth of between 3 and 8 inches. It has (usually) one or two crossbars inside the frame.  There is a skin(or synthetic skin) head.  Many modern ones are tunable.

 It is generally played with a turned wood tipper or beater. 

The origin is contentious, with some claiming an origin in the mid 19^th century.  Others say the early 20^th century. Or perhaps it is of Celtic pre-Christian origin. Drums of a similar style have been found in many cultures across the globe.
