Renowned fiddler and composer Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, his musical partner and wife, have run the Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp in upstate New York for many years. Jay wrote "Ashokan Farewell" in 1982 at the camp season's end, to express the sense of loss he felt after the departure of the musical community. The melody’s sweet, haunting sadness proved to be a perfect match for Ken Burns's 1990 PBS series "The Civil War", which introduced it to millions of viewers. In this guitar arrangement, the bass line enters as an ascending response to the melody, which is then harmonized in sixths and thirds the second time through. The arrangement is a good study in position shifting up and down the fingerboard, and provides a great showcase for dynamic and tonal nuance in the phrasing of the melody. It is an excellent concert selection and will be a popular addition to the repertoire of any fingerstyle player, on either steel- or nylon-string guitar.

The DG-255 I received from Lark in the Morning was easily as beautiful as presented. The padded gig bag is a huge plus as well.
The guitar is a solid and has a bigger, more forward sound than I'd anticipated which suits me just fine. It plays easily, surely even more so after I have a guitar tech get it set up for me.
Nice people, excellent service, quick shipping. Nothing not to like here.
This whistle has a beautiful, warm tone and is very responsive. I have used a variety of whistles (including other Kerry whistles), and this one is my favorite to play. While recording my latest album, I needed a whistle in this key pretty quickly, and Lark in the Morning had this delivered to me within a few days. I highly recommend this instrument, and Lark in the Morning is a fantastic place to purchase from with excellent customer service.
I already play a mountain lap dulcimer, but this one gives the instrument a whole different dimension to playing. Really beautiful craftsmanship. Thus isn’t a toy, but a lovely wooden instrument. Very easy to play!
Multifacsited approach to something fun to do!
Plays like a dream. I have MS and am no longer able to play guitar, but this uke let's me play songs again and sing. I had no idea how much I'd missed having music in my body. Thanks, Lark!
