Introducing a new pennywhistle from Lark in the Morning. Bb is one of those keys that quietly opens doors: it sits comfortably alongside brass instruments and fits naturally into a wide range of folk and popular song keys. If you have been curious about expanding beyond a standard D or C whistle, this is a genuinely rewarding place to start.
Construction & Materials
The body of this pennywhistle is crafted from nickel with a smooth matte black finish that is both durable and comfortable in the hand. The head is fitted with a brass fipple, contributing warmth and clarity to the instrument's overall voice. Six precisely placed finger holes run along the body for a responsive, comfortable playing experience. The two-piece design allows for minor pitch adjustment by sliding the head in or out along the body joint, making it easy to fine-tune intonation to match other instruments in a session.
Sound & Playability
Pitched in Bb, this whistle is particularly well suited for playing alongside brass instruments, in certain folk traditions, and across a broad range of popular song keys. The brass head produces a focused, resonant tone with good projection across both octaves. The whistle responds predictably to breath control, making it approachable for beginners while remaining satisfying for more experienced players exploring a new key. Intonation stays stable through the full two-octave range, a reliable hallmark of the Halifax design.
About This Instrument
The pennywhistle, also known as the tin whistle or feadog, is one of the most widely played folk instruments in the world. Its roots run deep through Irish, Scottish, and broader Celtic traditions, and it is equally at home in English, South African, and Appalachian musical contexts. The Bb key is a practical choice for musicians who want to expand their collection or play in tune with a wider range of ensembles.
Care & Maintenance
After each playing session, gently shake any condensation from the body and wipe the exterior with a soft dry cloth. The brass head can be lightly wiped with a cloth to preserve its luster. Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat or direct sunlight. Store in a protective case or pouch when not in use. Periodically check the head-to-body joint to maintain consistent intonation and an airtight seal.

Nice sound
This was my first ever Hardanger, so I basically wanted a "Squier" version of a Hardanger: an entry level Hardanger to learn on that was new and solid but wouldn't break the bank. This has been pretty much perfect and just what I wanted.I love playing it.
Beautiful amazing instrument! Easy and fun to play! Highly recommended! Great customer service and fast shipping!!
Jackie arrived, nicely packed and in rapid order... much lighter than I expected, thank goodness as the instrument is attached to the player by their thumbs (and mine are kind of old).
I never thought that it would be so challenging for me to learn play ... so different from anything I've tried before... I can feel the neurons in my brain sparking and protesting. Actually, it feels good to build new pathways. The cat is none too pleased with my new endeavor. However, Jackie is a beautiful instrument, well made and of good quality. I'm sure, in time, we'll become the best of friends.
Thanks to all at Lark in the Morning for making my experience so pleasant and trouble free. <3
The external Twin Spot works great on my Irish Bouzouki. I've scotched taped the pickup heads and wires it in place for easy adjustment, and the pick up sensitivity is very good. I'm running it through my guitar DI box for increased sensitivity and tone control.
