The shahi baaja combines a 5 string bulbul tarang with a 10 string integral swarmandal. The 2 main strings are strummed or plucked by the right hand, while the left hand depresses the typewriter-style keys to change the notes. The 10 drone strings, tuned to C-G-C, function like a swarmandal. Tune to C for the 2 melody strings and G for the 10 string swarmandal. The 3 strings tuned to C-G-C serve as drones, while the remaining 10 strings can be tuned from low to high: C-C-C-Eb-F-G-G-Bb-C-C for a variety of tunings.
This Mohini Banjo brand electric version features a double pickup with tone and volume control. This one is barely used, in mint condition.
