Construction & Materials
The Generation Tabor Pipe is built from brass, giving it a warm golden finish and a solid feel in the hand. The cylindrical body is slender and lightweight, shaped to the traditional proportions of the three-hole pipe. A vibrant red plastic fipple mouthpiece sits at the top, forming a secure seal for reliable tone production. Brass construction contributes to the pipe's durability, making it a dependable choice for regular use in performance or practice.
Sound & Playability
Tuned to the key of high D, this tabor pipe delivers the bright, penetrating tone historically associated with pipe and tabor traditions across Europe. The three-hole fingering system requires only one hand to play, freeing the other to beat a drum or tambourine. This single-handed design makes the tabor pipe one of the most distinctive and practical melody instruments in the folk tradition. Players of all experience levels will find the fingering system approachable and rewarding to explore.
About This Instrument
The tabor pipe, also called the three-hole pipe or whittle, has roots stretching back to medieval Europe, where a single musician would play pipe and drum simultaneously. It remains central to traditional music in England, the Basque Country, and beyond. Generation is a respected name in folk wind instruments, known for producing accessible, well-constructed pipes suited to both beginners and seasoned traditional musicians. This brass tabor pipe in high D is a practical and historically informed choice for anyone drawn to early music, Morris dancing, or European folk traditions.
Care & Maintenance
After playing, remove the red fipple mouthpiece and gently shake any moisture from the bore. Wipe the exterior of the brass body with a soft dry cloth to preserve the finish. Store the pipe in a protective case or pouch to prevent scratching. Avoid exposing the instrument to extreme heat or humidity, which can affect the integrity of both the brass body and the plastic mouthpiece over time.

Nice sound
This was my first ever Hardanger, so I basically wanted a "Squier" version of a Hardanger: an entry level Hardanger to learn on that was new and solid but wouldn't break the bank. This has been pretty much perfect and just what I wanted.I love playing it.
Beautiful amazing instrument! Easy and fun to play! Highly recommended! Great customer service and fast shipping!!
Jackie arrived, nicely packed and in rapid order... much lighter than I expected, thank goodness as the instrument is attached to the player by their thumbs (and mine are kind of old).
I never thought that it would be so challenging for me to learn play ... so different from anything I've tried before... I can feel the neurons in my brain sparking and protesting. Actually, it feels good to build new pathways. The cat is none too pleased with my new endeavor. However, Jackie is a beautiful instrument, well made and of good quality. I'm sure, in time, we'll become the best of friends.
Thanks to all at Lark in the Morning for making my experience so pleasant and trouble free. <3
The external Twin Spot works great on my Irish Bouzouki. I've scotched taped the pickup heads and wires it in place for easy adjustment, and the pick up sensitivity is very good. I'm running it through my guitar DI box for increased sensitivity and tone control.
